Reactivity of Polysilazanes Allows Catalyst?Free Curing of Silicones

Silicones are typically cured at room temperature by means of metal catalyst such as tin or platinum. When networks formed, the becomes unrecoverable, which is economic well environmental concern. Very few methods for producing catalyst-free room-temperature-vulcanized (RTV) silicones exist and require conditions unavailable in industrial settings. Through study organic polysilazane (PSz) reactivity with simple alcohols nuclear magnetic resonance, an unexpected fragmentation preference discovered breaking Si?N bond rather than Si?H; thereby, casting a new light on mechanism PSzs. Utilizing PSz silyl ether coupling agent multifunctional carbinol silicones, method RTV silicone ambient presented. These proven chemically similar to standard condensation-cured stoichiometric variations content demonstrate adjustable network properties.
